Village Halls Week. 16th - 22nd March
Health and Wellbeing at the Heart of Five Ashes
Village Halls Week, running from 16th to 22nd March, celebrates the vital role that village halls play in supporting the health and wellbeing of rural communities.
Across the country these halls provide much more than simply a meeting place; they act as social hubs where people can stay active, connect with others, and take part in activities that support both physical and mental wellbeing.
At Five Ashes Village Hall, this role is clearly evident in the wide range of activities that take place each week. From Pilates and strength classes to Disco Fit Gold and Tai Chi, the hall provides regular opportunities for people of all ages to keep active and maintain their physical health.
Equally important are the creative and social activities such as art classes, singing groups, and community clubs, which help foster friendships, reduce isolation, and strengthen the sense of community.
For many residents, particularly those living in a rural area, the village hall offers an accessible and welcoming space where they can meet others, try new activities, and feel part of village life. Classes designed for older residents, families with young children, and those simply looking to improve their fitness or learn a new skill ensure that the hall serves a broad cross-section of the community.
Village Halls Week highlights how facilities like Five Ashes Village Hall help people stay healthy not just physically, but socially and emotionally as well. By bringing people together, encouraging participation, and offering inclusive activities for all generations, the hall continues to play a crucial role in keeping the local community active, connected, and thriving.
Five Ashes Village Hall is a good example of how a village hall can bring these benefits to life.
Throughout Village Halls Week, the hall will host a wide variety of activities designed to keep people moving, learning, and connecting with others.
The week begins on Monday 16 March with a Strength Class, helping participants maintain fitness and mobility, alongside the Art Club, where creativity and conversation go hand in hand. Young performers can take part in Ideal Performing Arts, while the ever-popular Table Tennis session offers a friendly and active way for people to socialise.
On Tuesday 17 March, the hall continues to offer opportunities for both creativity and physical engagement with Stage Combat, a dynamic and theatrical activity that builds confidence and coordination, together with another Art Class that provides a relaxed environment for artistic expression.
Midweek activities on Wednesday 18 March focus strongly on wellbeing, with Pilates helping to improve strength and flexibility, Disco Fit Gold offering a fun, music-based workout particularly popular with older participants, and BodiBlossom, which promotes gentle exercise and mindfulness.
Thursday 19 March brings a particularly varied programme. Baby Explorers provides sensory classes in a supportive space for young families, while Happy Tai Chi encourages balance, relaxation, and gentle movement. The University of the Third Age (U3A) offers learning and social engagement for older residents, and further Pilates and Tai Chi sessions continue the theme of accessible fitness and wellbeing.
The week concludes on Friday 20 March with Chair Yoga, a class specifically designed to make the benefits of yoga accessible to those who prefer or require seated exercise, ensuring that wellbeing activities remain inclusive for people of all abilities.
Village Halls Week highlights the important role that halls like Five Ashes play in rural communities. By offering a diverse programme of activities—from fitness classes and creative arts to social clubs and family groups—the hall helps residents stay active, reduce isolation, and maintain a strong sense of community.
In villages where opportunities to meet and participate can otherwise be limited, the village hall remains an essential hub—keeping people healthy, connected, and thriving.
